COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is a multidisciplinary approach to the comprehensive nutrition assessment of the pediatric patient. The purpose is to share a foundation of knowledge and skill to provide evidence-based nutrition care within the scope of each key healthcare discipline. Attendees will learn the nutrition needs of infants, children and adolescents. The course will demonstrate how to identify malnutrition in the pediatric patient, including nutrition-focused physical examination and a deeper dive into nutrition management of various diseases by organ system. A special focus will be made to the many challenges of feeding the pediatric patient, ranging from picky eating to unhealthy relationships with food as it related to mental health.

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

Identify the basic nutrition needs of infants, children and adolescents as well as special nutrition-related considerations for subspecialty pediatric populations.
Gain both the knowledge and skills necessary for the comprehensive nutrition assessment of the pediatric patient, including nutrition-focused physical examination.
Advocate for a multidisciplinary approach to effective, evidence-based nutrition care of the pediatric patient.
Identify the role of nutrition in the management of various pediatric illnesses.
